The third Saturday in September was no ordinary Sim raceday. Stemming from an unique idea to capture and mirror real-world Olympics excitement, several months of preparation came finally to its grand climax: Week 788 marked 15 specially sponsored races to be hosted at Vermont. Fifteen million-dollar races, fifteen owner restricted races to be exact. Led and organized by Ladyssecret of Pastures Of Green, the event was collectively called the Sim Equinics -- a dozen resident stables were the symbolic “countries” as each sent 15 of their very best horses to participate. It was a day to mark the coming-together of the player-run sites.................

A trip back to the United States was accompanied by much pomp and circumstance as School Kris brought honor and glory to his home state of California by winning Equinic gold in the GI Prometheus Gift.

Some of the sites like Longchamp’s Turfstar-Paris Races, New York’s Through The Binoculars and, of course, Pastures are still around today and some aren’t like the now-defunct California Gold. Trainer Theatrical, a resident of Cal Gold, had the honor of sending out his top star School Kris to represent the California site. For the one mile turf event, the colt won his race with ease. It was his third Grade 1 victory in his past five starts at that point -- in 2000, he would capture a total of four Grade 1 turf events, pocketing three other grades and hitting the board in six others. In a whopping 21 graded stakes race starts, School Kris finished in the money in 13 of those events, a tremendous percentage as consistent top company horses are so few and far between...............
”He is a warrior with an unparalleled heart."
---- Sir Arthur Cornwallis, Champion Turf Horse Tribute
From those 21 graded stakes and 13 victories or in-the-money performances, we arrive at another key statistic in School Kris’ Horse Of the Year campaign. The key to a champion lies in consistency at the highest level and, also, all-around in good company. School Kris made just seven seasonal starts in listed stakes events. At high-purse tracks like California, Kentucky, Louisiana and Longchamp, theatrical’s champion turf horse finished in the money in all of those seven starts, winning four of them in a sheer testament to his class. This colt belonged in the graded stakes ranks -- the theater of his prep races were against his very own rivals -- rivals who did beat him on his off days, but sure tasted his dust when he was on his mark. In a long campaign from January to December, School Kris raced and won with the very best in his division, winning from 6 1/2 furlongs to a mile-and-a-quarter. It was a year-long campaign of consistency through the entire season.................
”You can't say anything better than he is a champion."
---- Sir Arthur Cornwallis, Champion Turf Horse Tribute
It is fitting that the newly-crowned 2000 Sim Horse Of the Year won his Equinics race for Theatrical and the California Gold team. So many lucky trainers got to see their horses run in million-dollar races, but the Equinics was so much more than the actual raceday itself. So many people were involved in its preparation. For each horse that ran, there was a select alternate-in-waiting, doubling the potential number of trainers involved. For each horse to even be considered, there were Message Board and e-mail communications needed, correspondance from each resident track’s organizers to possible representative trainers. For the horses to actually see the starting gate, there were countless hours of website work -- lists of horses needed to be posted and updated, and the Equinics site itself was an entourage of rules, starting fields, and medals. The Equinics itself was in the pre-Owner Restricted “package” days -- Mike Wallace had to tediously card the races by hand -- there was no convenient program or passwords to assign. Such vague description, however, does not do justice to all the organization and promotion that went into the Sim's greatest day of player participation -- and it all began with a starting point, an idea. One, that through tons of persistency, patience, and hard work, blossomed into awesome reality.

A remarkable idea that so many Sim players saw through to the end. A much-needed idea like the 2000 Sim Eclipse Awards, which brings final closure to this past racing season. An ambitious idea like the dream that all player-run sites start out with and blossom from -- as long as players both new, old, and yet-to-join imagine, discover, and pursue these new ideas, seeing them (through hard work) to the end, then the potential for great events like the Sim Equinics will always be just on the horizon. And like these wonderful imaginary racehorses who continue to test our skill, drive and determination all in this simulated horse racing game’s lovely allure -- in between numbers and names, they are all projects-in-the-making like characters in their very own heart-filled stories: each Saturday brings a new chapter to their rich-or-poor, grand-or-humble racing careers. And like theatrical’s own star hero, School Kris, son of Kris(GB), four-time Grade 1 conqueror and seven-time graded stakes victor in 2000, campaigner of over $4-million, champion turf horse, and because champions shall be crowned, and the champion of all champions shall be crowned............

School Kris: 2000 Sim Horse Of The Year
"He is a warrior with an unparalleled heart. You can't say anything better than he is a champion." I couldn't agree more.
