And the Older Horse Sim Award goes to......

The legends had all gathered

For the word had got around

That it was the night

The sim champions would win their crown

The noise was deafening, the convention centre was bursting at the seams and all the simsters were here to celebrate this night of nights the yearly ECLIPSE awards.  They were all here dressed in their finery, consuming gallons of booze and forgetting their cholesterol levels as they tore into the sumptuous offerings of food.  Snowchief and Roys were nearing a stress attack as they stormed around the podium trying to keep the program running to schedchule amid the noise and gaiety of the occasion.

Finally it was the turn of the OLDER HORSE OF THE YEAR.  Snowchief called for quiet and the envelope was passed to Roys who in her stressed out state promptly dropped it. Among cheers, jeers and general hilarity she finally collected it and the crowd now hushed except for Slowracers  who was imbibing the firewater as fast as Ledwith could pour it and was having trouble staying focused, Roys opened it and with a brief pause for effect read out the winner.

Roys: “ This was the hardest section we had as all finalists are champions of the sim. Unfortunately we can only have one winner and the winner is ALLIED ASSAULT! Congratulations to Allied Assault and of course his breeder, trainer and owner -- the one and only KINGAB”.

The crowd has erupted. Slowracers is dancing on the table and was going great guns until she kicked over Ledwith's drink. I actually thought murder was in the air but finally calm was restored and the King strolled forward to collect his trophy, showing no signs of nervousness (and neither he should as this is starting to become an every  year occurrence). He reached the microphone:

“Thank you Roys and commiserations to the other finalists. I’m humbled to be here and to accept this great honour. Thank you to all you simsters and to the judges. This horse of mine has given me great enjoyment from his first start, a lowly maiden which he won.

He had four runs as a two year old winning twice. From his first start as a three year old I knew I had something special as he romped home in an 8 furlongs Stakes. Then he put in a shocker  but bounced back to win 10 of his next 12 starts as a three year old including the Breeders Bowl.

I had  a super star and he continued his four year old career just as good and ended up with 5 wins from 12 starts all Grade 1 standard.    This year he has one from one and it is also a Grade 1.

So far he has notched up nine Grade 1 wins in his career. I love his running style where he tails off then comes home with the speed of an out of control typhoon, he has never given me a moments concern and always turns up ready to race. To sum it up folks he is a champion to me and will always be my favourite. Thank you all’

Kingab heads back to his table stepping over Slowracers and Ledwith who by this stage are sitting on the floor “ can’t fall to far this way slurs Ledwith.
